Top Questions

Why does my fire go out when I close the front door?

By closing the door of the fireplace before a strong, steady flame is established the airflow may be restricted, and the flame will not grow. In these situations, help establish the fire by opening the door slightly for approximately 10 minutes. Once the fire is going, you may close the door completely.

Should the ash plug be in when I run the stove?

Yes, you should have the ash plug in when running the stove so that hot embers do not get into the ash pan.

Do I need to hook up an outside air kit?

While an outside air kit is only required in mobile homes, the appliance must have a permanent outside air source for combustion in all other types of homes. The air intake must be screened to prevent the entrance of rodents, etc. The outside inlet must be kept free of leaves, snow, ice, and other debris that could restrict the air supply when the appliance is in operation.

Why is there smoke coming into my room?

All WoodPro appliances are designed to seal tight when the door is completely closed. If smoke is coming into your room, it is most likely due to the venting (chimney pipe). You may need to check all venting joints, and use high temperature silicone to seal or re-seal joints if needed, especially the connection where the venting meets the unit.

Do I need to have a grate in the stove?

This appliance is tested and listed without a grate. It is designed to have the wood stacked directly on the firebrick.

Warranty questions on broken brick replacement?

Unfortunately sometimes firebricks will break. The warranty does not cover damage or breakage of bricks. Other components of the appliance will be covered under the Warranty listed in the appliance’s installation manual excluding any damage due to misuse, improper handling, or modifications.

Operation

Where does the air come from in the firebox?

The firebox introduces combustion air through 4 sources. 1) Immediately beneath the door opening below the window is a Lower Primary Air Orifice. 2) The primary air inlet control (center control lever) brings air into the firebox and controls the rate of burn and amount of heat the stove radiates. 3) The high burn duct control (right control lever) provides additional air for maximum burn rate. 4) The secondary air tubes at the top of the firebox. There are also small openings under the hearth bricks that circulate the combustion air within the stove.
