What size vent pipe do I need for my pellet stove?

Depending on the pellet stove you own, you will need either a 3” or 4” vent pipe. The specific size required can be found in your installation manual or by contacting your local Forge & Flame dealer.

Venting Options and Requirements

When venting your pellet stove, there are a few options to consider. Commonly, pellet stoves use a type 'L' vent pipe. Typically, a 4-inch vent pipe is standard. The L-vent uses a small air space between a stainless steel inner pipe and a galvanized outer pipe. Because pellet stove exhaust is pressurized, all the joints between the pipes must be sealed with  silicon or have a tight, sealed or gasketed connection to ensure safety and efficiency.

Installation Considerations

Pellet stoves can be vented horizontally through an outside wall or vertically through the roof, providing flexible installation options for different areas of your home. We recommend at least 48 inches of vertical pipe before a horizontal termination. This vertical section helps improve draft, particularly in cases of power outages.
